Aisha Mohammed Saeed Al Mulla, a member of the Federal National Council, stated that the achievements achieved by Emirati women today would not have been possible without the support of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (may God protect her). Her Highness directed that the theme for Emirati Women’s Day, which falls on August 28, be “Planning for the Next Fifty: Women are the Support of the Nation.” Her Highness emphasized the prominent role of women over the past decades.
Al Mulla explained that the process of empowering women dates back to pre-existing times, even before the founding of the Union. However, in recent decades, the status of Emirati women has been strengthened, serving as a role model. Emirati women have proven their ability to shoulder national and societal responsibilities, and their achievements in all fields have become an honorable model and an example to be emulated regionally and globally.
Al Mulla highlighted the wise leadership’s support for women and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, may God protect him, to raise women’s representation in the National Council to 50% to promote gender balance and increase women’s participation in decision-making positions. This has contributed to strengthening the country’s parliamentary diplomacy and keeping pace with the country’s global orientations and interest in women, their role, and their aspirations regarding various issues.
